A Beleza é Convulsiva tem como fonte primária quatro imagens que registraram uma mulher sendo agredida por policiais durante um protesto contra o Governo Temer, na cidade de São Paulo, em 2016. Capturadas provavelmente por algum dispositivo móvel e reproduzidas pela imprensa online e redes sociais, essas imagens mostram a mulher deitada na rua, imobilizada pelos agentes, no exato momento em que recebia um "mata-leão". O vídeo, porém, vela a cena original da violência ao ganhar uma atmosfera surreal. O título da obra traz para o presente o tempo verbal da frase que encerra o livro Nadja de autoria do surrealista André Bréton: “A beleza será convulsiva, ou não será”.

Beauty is Convulsive has as its primary source four images that recorded a woman being attacked by police during a protest against the Temer Government in the city of São Paulo in 2016. Captured probably by some mobile device and reproduced by the online press and social networks, these images show the woman lying in the street, immobilized by the agents, at the moment when she received a naked choke. To produce the video, the records were filmed in a dark environment exploring different focus and frames. The images gained a surreal atmosphere. The original scene of violence was veiled, leaving the woman's facial expressions and gestures "exalted" as if she were in a seizure. The title of the work brings to the present the verbal tense of the phrase that ends the book Nadja, by the surrealist André Bréton: "Beauty will be convulsive, or it will not be."
