Vilipêndio a Vênus (2017)

Este trabalho reflete sobre a apropriação, controle e representação do corpo feminino pelo sujeito masculino do ocidente através da imagem de Vênus em suas diferentes manifestações. Como se sabe, a regulação do corpo feminino através desse ícone histórico e normativo foi utilizada além da universo da arte pelo olhar masculino, seja através de uma apropriação simbólica, tal como aconteceu com as figuras femininas pré-históricas de diferentes culturas ao serem convencionalmente chamadas de Vênus, ou ainda através da denominação de partes do corpo da mulher. O ataque a minha sombra com um cutelo, arma branca, é um deslocamento do gesto político e iconoclasta da sufragista Mary Richardson ao agredir, em 1914, a pintura Rokeby Venus de Velazquez.  Diferentemente de seu ato, não se trata aqui de vilipendiar a imagem de um corpo feminino, mas de agredir a minha própria sombra.

This work reflects on the appropriation, control and representation of the female body by the male subject from the West through the image of Venus in its different manifestations. As is known, the regulation of the female body through this historical and normative icon was used in addition to the universe of art by the male eye, either through a symbolic appropriation, as happened with prehistoric female figures from different eras and cultures when they were conventionally called Venus, or even through the denomination of sexual parts of the woman's body. The attack on my shadow with a cleaver, a bladed weapon, is a displacement of the suffragist Mary Richardson's political and iconoclastic gesture when he attacked, in 1914, the painting Rokeby Venus de Velazquez. Unlike your act, it is not a matter of vilifying the image of a female body, but of attacking my own shadow.
